The question of why umbrellas emerged as a business idea was met with Pratik's straightforward response: In India, the onset of monsoon is not just a season; it is a very important event.
In simple terms, you can either like or dislike the monsoon, but you cannot ignore it. In India, the monsoon rages like a flood, and people cannot live without umbrellas. Even though there are already many common styles of umbrellas in the market, he believed that he could still unearth new ideas, connecting people's memories of the monsoon with his unique designs.
Despite the initial challenges faced by Cheeky Chunk, Pratik's innovative approach persisted. Collaborating with graffiti designers and art students, he utilized his savings of Rs. 135,000 to validate his idea. Though the initial sales were modest, Pratik's family support and access to his father's factory facilitated the production of 700 umbrellas in the first month.
Facing initial losses and struggles to sell his umbrellas, Pratik turned to online platforms and social media for promotion. The turning point came with the arrival of the monsoon, as people rushed to purchase his unique umbrellas. Fortune smiled upon Pratik; shortly thereafter, Cheeky Chunk's umbrellas soared to become the top-selling items online.
Cheeky Chunk's success is attributed to a focused approach, taking one step at a time, and seeking new opportunities for growth. Pratik acknowledges that scaling up in this industry requires expanding product categories and establishing strong connections with investors and teams.
