Children aged 3 to 6 are in preschool, and at this age, you'll find them more energetic than ever.
They're incredibly curious about everything and eager to communicate with their peers, to think through and express themselves when facing challenges, and they might even become quite talkative.
That's why many parents choose to take their children on trips during this critical period so they can experience and explore the world during travel.
Now, let's get back to the main topic: what items to pack for children aged 3 to 6, an important step before the journey that all parents should understand.
Food and Nutrition:
- Powdered milk, feeding bottle, bottle brush, insulated cup: If your child still drinks formula at this stage, these items are essential. Children who have stopped formula can skip this part.
- Water bottle and milk: These two things can be placed directly in their backpack. Travel can always provide the baby with a chance to replenish water and nutrition.
- Suitable snacks and fruits: Along with main meals, it's essential to pack snacks and fruits to keep the child satiated and pass the potentially boring and long travel times.
- Always pack medications: Electronic thermometer, cold medications, fever reducers, anti-diarrheal medicine, band-aids, mosquito bite ointment, and any necessary allergy or asthma medications for each child.
Tip: When trying local specialties, have your child eat less in case their stomach doesn't agree.
Accommodation:
- Sleeping bag: By using a sleeping bag, you no longer need to worry about the child kicking off the blanket at night. It helps the child adapt more quickly to an unfamiliar sleeping environment.
- Baby toiletries: Children's toothpaste, toothbrush, face cream, baby shower gel, shampoo, etc.
- Slippers: Prepare a pair of slippers for your child to wear during indoor activities, giving their feet freedom.
- Pajamas: Two or three sets are sufficient to help your child sleep better.

During the Journey:
- Bring along some picture books: Picture books are great for passing the time during a tedious journey and strengthening the parent-child relationship, allowing both parents and children to enjoy exclusive intimate moments.
- Toys: Toys can help children learn to entertain themselves during the journey.
- Tablet (if needed): If the journey is too long, bring a tablet and pre-download some of your child's favorite cartoons to help divert their attention and stabilize their mood.
- Baby blanket: When your child falls asleep on the train or plane, you can cover them to prevent them from getting cold.
- Kleenex and wet wipes: These two items should be handy at all times and places, so prepare a few packs.
Clothing:
- Change of clothes and a few extra sets: Children are active and love to play, so their clothes can get dirty quickly. Additionally, even if you're traveling in summer, don't forget to pack a light jacket, as sudden temperature changes can lead to the child catching a cold.
- Two or three pairs of shoes: Choose the right shoes depending on the destination. For the beach or water park, remember to pack cool shoes.
- If you're going hiking, bring hiking shoes or lightweight sports shoes. If you're taking your child skiing, prepare some brightly colored waterproof clothes, hats, gloves, and perforated jackets these items are essential. Local places usually have ski equipment, snow boots, ski clothing, goggles, and other professional ski gear available for rent.
- Bath towel: Children in this age group are active, sweat more, and have a fast metabolism, so pack a sweat towel to prevent them from catching a cold.
